The E5-2699 v4 is the largest Broadwell-EP part Intel shipped — 22 cores per socket with 55 MB of L3. A dual-socket configuration puts 44 physical cores, 88 threads and 110 MB of cache in one chassis, paired here with 256 GB of registered ECC DDR4.
The trade-off is clock: the base drops to 2.2 GHz to keep 22 cores inside a 145 W envelope, though the turbo still reaches 3.6 GHz for lightly threaded phases. That makes this a throughput machine rather than a latency machine. Where the E5-2690 v4 is the balanced choice, this is the one to pick when your bottleneck is unambiguously "not enough threads".
At €325 the per-thread cost is the lowest in the Intel range — roughly €3.69 per thread per month against €4.45 on the E5-2690 v4 — and the doubled memory allocation means those threads have room to work.
What this configuration is good at
Where the Dual Xeon E5-2699 v4 earns its price against the rest of the range.
Large build farms
88 threads compiles large codebases substantially faster than any single-socket alternative at this price. Distributed builds land on one machine instead of three.
Batch transcoding at scale
Parallel FFmpeg workers scale with threads. 110 MB of L3 keeps reference frames close to the cores.
Dense virtualisation
256 GB and 88 threads carve into a lot of guests. A realistic host for an entire small-provider VPS node.
Analytics and batch ETL
Spark, Dask and Postgres parallel query plans all scale with available cores, and 256 GB avoids spilling intermediate results to disk.
When to pick something else
A 2.2 GHz base is the wrong shape for latency-sensitive single-threaded work. For game servers, trading loops or a cache tier, the higher-clocked E5-2690 v4 or the EPYC 9254 at 2.9 GHz will feel considerably faster despite having fewer cores.
Compare the full dedicated range
Every configuration ships with IPMI, 1 Gbps unmetered bandwidth and 2.5 Tbps DDoS protection.

Dual Xeon E5-2699 v4 — common questions
Why is the base clock lower than the E5-2690 v4?
Twenty-two cores have to share a 145 W power budget, so each one runs at a lower sustained frequency. The 3.6 GHz turbo is available when only a few cores are active; under all-core load, plan against the 2.2 GHz base.
Is 256 GB of RAM standard on this configuration?
Yes, 256 GB of registered ECC DDR4 is included at €325 — double the allocation on the other Xeon configurations, and no extra charge.
How does this compare to the Dual EPYC 9254?
The EPYC has fewer cores (48 threads against 88) but a far higher 2.9 GHz base, DDR5 with twelve channels per socket, and ten NVMe bays. Pick this Xeon for maximum thread count at minimum cost; pick the EPYC when memory bandwidth or storage throughput is the limit.
Can I run VMware ESXi on it?
Yes. Mount your installer through IPMI and deploy it directly. Broadwell-EP is well within support for current ESXi releases, though you should confirm your specific version against VMware's hardware compatibility list.
What RAID levels are available across the six bays?
RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10 through the onboard controller. Tell us the layout you want before provisioning and the array is built during deployment.
